Tom Hardy returns from the hinterland in the trailer for FX’s Taboo

Though the internet has already gotten some rather interesting behind-the-scenes looks at Tom Hardy’s upcoming TV project Taboo, this trailer represents our first official look. The eight-episode event series—based on a concept hatched by its 38-year-old star and his father Chips Hardy—will tell the story of an early 19th-century heir to a shipping empire (Hardy) who shocks the polite society of London, who had believed him to be dead, when he returns home from his travels in Africa after his father’s death in time accept his inheritance. Though his experiences abroad have instilled in him a colder view of the world, he is unprepared for the savagery he must face in the supposedly more civilized land of his birth.

Taboo is a co-production between FX and BBC One, with Ridley Scott, Steven Knight and Hardy serving as executive producers. Knight and Hardy have previously worked together on the 2013 drama Locke and the second season of the BBC Two drama Peaky Blinders. Jonathan Pryce, Oona Chaplin (Game Of Thrones), and Michael Kelly (House Of Cards) are included in the strong supporting cast. Taboo currently has no release date.
