Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie stare intensely in The Night Manager trailer
Tom Hiddleston sure likes to stay busy. On top of the two films the English actor has slated for U.S. releases (I Saw The Light and High-Rise) and the two films has currently in the works (Thor: Ragnarok and Kong: Skull Island), he somehow found the time this year to take a lead role in a six-part miniseries for the BBC and the Ink Factory opposite two-time Emmy-winner Hugh Laurie.
The Night Manager, based on a novel by spy chronicler extraordinaire John le Carré, follows a former British soldier turned hotel manager (Hiddleston) who is recruited by an intelligence operative (Olivia Colman) to infiltrate the operations of an extremely dangerous international arms dealer. The miniseries totals six hours, so it’s safe to assume that his mission will encounter some complications: As we can see in the trailer, things will explode, people will get punched, clothes will be removed, and many icy glares will be exchanged by the two leads. It’s not quite the George-Smiley-thinking-intensely brand of le Carré adaptation we’ve come to know of late, but Laurie must have been excited to get to use his natural accent on television once again: After eight seasons of House and two seasons of Veep, he (like most U.S. TV viewers) probably completely forgot he was British.
The Night Manager will begin airing on BBC One on February 21 and on AMC on April 19.
