Tom Holland to play young Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie

Forget Mark Wahlberg and forget Nathan Fillion (seriously, he’s way too old), Sony Pictures has finally found someone to play hero Nathan Drake in its big-screen adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted video game series. According to Deadline, the lucky brown-haired man is none other than Tom Holland, who already happens to be starring in Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Homecoming. Apparently, Sony Pictures head Tom Rothman was so happy with Holland’s performance in Homecoming that he convinced Uncharted director Shawn Levy to make his movie into a prequel story, with the narrative now taking its inspiration from a flashback sequence in 2011’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

The Nathan Drake of the video games is a roguish treasure hunter, but the studio is now looking to hire a new writer who can create a new draft of the script that details how a young Nathan Drake became that roguish treasure hunter. Considering that Sony has been trying to get this movie off the ground for years, this new take could be just the thing that Uncharted needs in order to finally happen. Also, as Deadline notes, this will give Holland a chance to “grow into” both the Spider-Man and Uncharted franchises, so he could conceivably continue making sequels to both movies for decades.
