Whether as The Nightwatchman or as a member of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave, Tom Morello has always used his music to speak out against social injustice. Now he’ll have another medium to communicate that message: According to Rolling Stone, the Morello-penned comic-book series Orchid will debut October 12 on Dark Horse Comics (which previously got into the musicians-doing-comics game with My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way and his The Umbrella Academy). The story focuses on a “16-year-old street prostitute who discovers she has a greater calling than what has been imposed on her,” and is set in “a nightmarish world full of ferocious new animal species that prey on humans while the rich harvest the bodies of the poor.” Sounds like a vibe somewhere between Transmetropolitan and Sin City, which should go well with Morello’s dystopian future theme. Orchid will feature art by The Port creator Scott Hepburn, and it will premiere with an alternate cover drawn by famed street artist Shepard Fairey.
