In keeping with their post-Nipplegate decision to present controversy-free artists with "lengthy and established careers," Fox has announced that Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers will perform the halftime show at this year's Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Arizona. Petty will, of course, have a tough act to follow in Prince, whose still talked-about, rain-soaked run-through of catalog hits and surprise covers last year was an all-time high, but at least the FCC can take solace in knowing that it's doubtful Petty will force the world to tremble before his massive devil's dong.
