Tombs shovel tons of gloom over “Deathtripper”
Death is inevitable, yet it’s rarely predictable. On “Deathtripper,” Tombs embodies that tension between certainty and chaos; the track, which is being debuted here, churns and chugs with a nearly industrial rhythm as frontman Mike Hill fills a hole in existence with molten, post-punk guitar and a distorted prayer to oblivion. That is, until the song’s climax, where all hell breaks loose. “Deathtripper” is just one wounded howl of terminal desperation on Savage Gold, the New York outfit’s unrelenting new full-length. The end is nigh, and it’s going to be nasty.
Savage Gold will be released June 10 via Relapse.
