Tommy Lee is mad at "fucking idiot" Travis Scott for allegedly stealing his roller coasters
Travis Scott’s chart-topping 2018 release Astroworld nods to a shuttered theme park in his hometown of Houston, and his stage show supporting the album finds Scott rapping while riding an onstage roller coaster. It’s a sight to behold, but not everyone was impressed. Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee took to social media on Thursday, claiming that Scott’s design is a ripoff of his own onstage antics.
“Just found out this fucking idiot @travisscott or someone on his team ripped off the 360 AND The Cruecifly! WTF!! Get an original idea bro …,” Lee, a 56-year old man, wrote, referring to both his well-known 360-degree drum-coaster and an apparatus that allowed him to perform (and occasionally get stuck) over the audience during the hair metal outfit’s 2014-2015 tour.
Lee, posting videos of Scott’s performance, added, “I get copying is a form of flattery, but this is just straight ripping off my shit.”
After telling Scott to “lawyer up,” Lee added: “And the plot thickens! After I and our production crew created the 360 and Crüecifly, We hired a company called SGPS in Las Vegas to create it. WELLLLL GUESS WHO’S DOING TRAVIS’S SET DESIGN???? Fucking SGPS! So all u mothafuckas tellin me I’m not right can fuck off.”
It appears, however, that, if Scott’s design is the same one that Lee used, Lee’s not the one making the decision as to who can use it. Consequence Of Sound shared a statement from a legal representative for Scott, who says, “Tommy didn’t invent the concept of a roller coaster on stage and there’s no legal basis for his accusatory outburst. The actual creator and owner of the system has granted Travis all rights to use that equipment to complement his original stage design.”
It might not be so cut-and-dry, though. As CoS points out, Lee himself was sued over the 360-degree drum design years ago and emerged victorious in that case. Maybe he’ll have similar luck in this instance?
Regardless, we think they should just shake hands, smoke up, and bond over what it’s like to date women who are much more famous than them.
