Tool has finished recording their first new album in more than a decade

Tool fans are a patient lot. They have to be, as the band’s been teasing its follow-up to 2006's 10,000 Days for what feels like a lifetime. Last year, Maynard James Keenan offered a promising update, and, when accepting the Icon Award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards in June, said that “you’re gonna see some new music next year.”

Keenan offered another update this morning, taking to Twitter to say that his “final vocals” were tracked “MONTHS ago” and that they’re beginning the “long process of Mixing now.”

As Consequence Of Sound points out, the band hits the road for a string of festivals and European dates in May so it’s likely they’ll want to have it all wrapped up by then.

In the meantime, rest assured in the previous comments of Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach, who called the new music “progressive metal at its most atmospheric” with “riffs so heavy it feels like a TOOL.”

Also, if you missed it, Tool offered a brief taste of the new tunes last summer while marketing a series of musical clinics. Hear it below.
