Topher Grace tacitly admits that Tom Hardy will be a better Venom than he was

We’re deep enough into the world of superhero movies that we’ve had multiple recognizable actors play the same characters in different movies, so it must be a little weird for, say, the old Fantastic Four cast to see the new Fantastic Four cast (we know that nobody saw the new Fantastic Four, but that’s beside the point). However, Topher Grace seems totally on board with Tom Hardy starring in the new Venom movie. Grace played a reasonably good version of Venom in Spider-Man 3, as long as you accept him as a dark version of Tobey Maguire’s super-dorky Spider-Man, but he recently told Inverse that he thinks Hardy is “the guy to play that role” and that he’s “just the best dude.”

Grace, who says he was a big fan of the Todd McFarlane Spider-Man comics that introduced Venom when he was a kid, and while he understands that the Venom he played wasn’t that Venom, he still thought it was a “cool” take on the character. Hardy’s Venom, meanwhile, looks like a more traditional take on the character, with Grace noting, “that’s the character I grew up with.” Plus, let’s not forget that Hardy’s Venom can get it, which we don’t recall anyone really saying about Grace’s Venom.
