Trailer for Spike Lee’s Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus won’t admit it’s a vampire movie

Here’s a weird thing that happened: Fresh off of directing a remake of classic South Korean thriller Oldboy, Spike Lee took to Kickstarter to raise money for his “newest hottest joint,” a love story of sorts about a guy (Stephen Tyrone Williams) who drinks blood that’s titled Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus. According to /Film, he’s not strictly a vampire, but we think that’s just splitting fangs. He’s cursed with an insatiable thirst for human blood, and while he might not have a cape or sparkly diamond skin, it’s easier to call him a vampire. Anyway, the vampire falls in love with a dead colleague’s wife (Zaraah Abrahams) and, based on this trailer, the movie then gets into a whole bunch of metaphors about addiction and love and sleeping in coffins. Well, not so much sleeping in coffins. /Film also notes that the film is a “reinterpretation” of Bill Gunn’s 1973 horror film Ganja & Hess. Whether Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus is actually a vampire movie or not, it hits theaters on February 13, 2015.
