Fresh off the heels of its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, a trailer has been released for post-apocalyptic throwback Turbo Kid. The film is actually an adaptation of/expansion on a short film (“T Is For Turbo”) that was submitted for the first ABCs Of Death anthology. The producer of that film, Ant Timpson, along with fellow nostalgia enthusiast, Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), have produced this remake which was directed by the original’s team of RKSS—that is, Anouk Whissell, François Simard, and Yoann-Karl Whissell.
The film’s retro-futuristic look is reminiscent of the various Italian knockoffs that came out in the ’80s following the success of Mad Max—films like 1990: The Bronx Warriors, 2019: After The Fall Of New York, Warriors Of The Wasteland, etc., where shoulder pads, spikes, and bizarre, appliance-based weaponry are the height of fashion. In a post-apocalyptic future, The Kid, a young solitary scavenger obsessed with comic books must face his fears and become a reluctant hero when he meets a mysterious girl named Apple. Despite their efforts to keep to themselves, Zeus, the sadistic and self-proclaimed leader of the Wasteland, plagues The Kid and Apple. Armed with little more than blind faith and an ancient turbocharged weapon, The Kid learns of justice and friendship and embarks on an incredible journey to rid the Wasteland of evil and save the girl of his dreams.
