Transformers, Land of the Lost Lead Razzie Nominations

It was a good weekend for women and awards season buzz. Beyonce cleaned house at the Grammys with six awards. The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow showed up her ex-husband to take home the top Directors Guild prize. And Sandra Bullock got some recognition for her work in All About Steve, with the unveiling of this year’s Razzie Award nominations.

With Bullock expected to earn a Best Actress Oscar nomination tomorrow for The Blind Side, this could be one of those rare years when a star takes home both an Oscar and a Razzie. Steve Martin, who will co-host this year’s Academy Awards, also received a Razzie nomination for Worst Actor in Pink Panther 2.

There were few surprises with this year’s nominees. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Land of the Lost led the pack with seven nominations, including Worst Picture Of The Year. The Razzies, now in its 30th year, considered following the Oscars and expanding its Worst Picture category to 10 films, but founder and president John Wilson told the Los Angeles Times I realized that our membership is only one-tenth of the academy, and it would have no meaning.” The nominations did add some “worst of the decade” categories this year to mark the closing of the ‘00s.

Twilight: New Moon did not receive as many Razzie nominations as some were expecting. Apparently the film was just shy of receiving nominations for Worst Picture and Worst Supporting Actor for Taylor Lautner. New Moon did manage to get four nominations, including Worst Screen Couple and Worst Screenplay.

The Razzie Awards will be handed out on March 6 in Hollywood.
