Transformers writers talk Trek
In an interview with MTV News, Transformers writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman dropped some info and insights into their next project: a hotly debated, big-screen prequel to the original Star Trek TV series that they're making with Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams. (The three have previously worked together on Alias and Mission: Impossible III.) Due next year, the film will supposedly be titled simply Star Trek, and will chronicle the early lives of Kirk and Spock. According to Orci and Kurtzman, Leonard Nimoy is slated for a cameo–much to the ire of William Shatner, who apparently is being told he's quite welcome to pop onscreen himself. The scribes also expressed bewilderment about how they're going to update a 40-year-old TV series while remaining faithful to the characters and iconography–not to mention Shatner's, um, patented delivery.
