Transparent creator Jill Soloway to direct pot-farm comedy for Amazon

Jill Soloway sure does like to keep busy. On top of her many other projects, she has recently struck a deal to co-write and direct a feature film for Amazon Studios, according to Variety. Ten Aker Wood is being described as a coming-of-age story, about a woman who escapes the wreckage of her failed marriage in L.A. and moves to Northern California to start her life anew on a marijuana farm, where she falls in love with a biker and slips into an outlaw lifestyle. Soloway confides to Variety that the story is “partly autobiographical.” No word yet on who will share scripting duties with her.

In addition to her roles as writer, director, executive producer and showrunner for Amazon’s Emmy-award winning series Transparent — which is going into its third season — the 50-year-old non-sleep-needing filmmaker is also currently attached to produce and direct the pilot episode of the Sarah Gubbins-scripted I Love Dick for Amazon, she recently produced Jessie Kahnweiler web series The Skinny, and she’s developing a buddy comedy series for MTV. As you might imagine, that collection of projects would have to leave her weekly schedule with at least 17 or 18 free minutes, so it’s easy to see why she’d seek out yet another project to fill that time.
