Trent Reznor still insists there’ll be new NiN this year

Tapping into the spirit of optimism and hope that’s always been inherent in the work of Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor has once again asserted that the long-running group will be producing new music before the year is up.

Back in December, Reznor announced “New NIN coming in 2016,” a claim which has grown increasingly less likely sounding as the months tick away. But, as Reznor noted when a fan asked him about the claim on Instagram this week, “2016 is not over yet.”

Nine Inch Nails hasn’t put out an album since 2013’s well-received, Grammy-nominated Hesitation Marks. In the meantime, Reznor has kept himself busy with a variety of projects, including a number of film soundtracks (Gone Girl, Leonardo DiCaprio’s climate change documentary Before The Flood) and a song for NASA’s recent Jupiter mission with frequent Nine Inch Nails producer Atticus Ross. He also currently serves as the Chief Creative Officer for Apple Music, and will appear in Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival next year.
