Trial & Error rests its case—hopefully just for now

Trial & Error rests its case—hopefully just for now

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Thursday, August 23. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Trial & Error (NBC, 9:00 and 9:30 p.m.): NBC’s weird, wonderful court mockumentary reaches the end of what we (please, really seriously, please) hope is its second, but not final, season with another pair of back-to-back episodes. While a renewal (please, come on NBC, please) would extend the life of the series, this is almost certainly the end of the line of Kristin Chenoweth’s winningly deranged performance as Lavinia Peck-Foster. Will Harris stands ready to bid her a fond and probably kind of stunned farewell—it’s just that kind of show. Godspeed, Trial & Error, and (please, oh please, oh please) come back.

Regular coverage

Wild card

Rob Riggle’s Ski Master Academy (Sony Crackle): In this oddball new series, Rob Riggle plays “Rob Riggle,” a “celebrity patriot” who throws all of his money into an instructional institution devoted to the time-honored art of personal watercraft riding. Sounds silly, sure, but get a load of this cast of regular and guest stars: Eliza Coupe, Samm Levine, Billy Merritt, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Haley Joel Osment, Paul Scheer, David Arquette, Noël Wells… The list goes on. All right, Rob Riggle’s Ski Master Academy. We see you. On a personal watercraft.
