Because The A.V. Club knows that TV shows keep going even if we’re not writing at length about them, we’re experimenting with discussion posts. For certain shows, one of our TV writers will publish some brief thoughts about the latest episode, and open the comments for readers to share theirs.
- This has been such an off season of Grey’s Anatomy, it’s downright startling when an episode like “True Colors” displays what’s good about the show in the first place. But it was all there: a few looming secrets, a menace inside the hospital, some sparks of romance, and enough history to remind us why we’re so invested in these characters. Kevin McKidd (Owen) directed, doing a fine job with an episode that included his own character’s breakdown.
- Really, that was a great twist, having the sex car guy turn out to be not a true-love candidate but inherently evil, especially after all the jokes about “premature acceleration.” And what is it about having the hospital in peril that makes for such a good episode? I don’t think I’ve been that riveted since “Death And All His Friends.”
- Darby Camp, continuing her excellent acting resume from Big Little Lies. She’s gotta be 8 going on 18.
- A Meredith kids sighting! But she has three, right? Where was the third one?
- “You speak German.”
- Every week Maggie and Jackson are going to get closer together, and every week I’m going to hate it.
- What do you think: Is Stephanie alive or dead? Since Jerrika Hinton is moving on, I wouldn’t put anything past this show. But if Stephanie goes down a hero, that was an awesome way to go. Will really miss that actress and character.
- Nice casting with Will Schuster (Matthew Morrison) as Jo’s abusive ex. It’s great that he’s not a stereotypical thug, but a well-dressed, clean-cut professional (see also: Big Little Lies). I even liked Alex’s revenge fantasy sequences.
- Morrison’s appearance also underlines the menace of car-sex guy: Neither look like how we would “expect” a sexual predator or abuser to look. So danger can exist where we least expect it, and be hidden behind an apparent nice-guy facade.

- Next week: Season finale! Predicting that the season ends with Megan walking through the hospital door, to the shock of Hunt, Riggs, et al. Should we do discussion board posts again for Grey’s’ already announced season 14?
