True Detective casts this season’s sexy girlfriend character
Because underneath all that awards-season gloss, HBO still has quotas to fill, True Detective has cast the obligatory girlfriend character for its second season. That role will be filled by up-and-coming actress Adria Arjona, who is having an excellent month after also being cast as a vicious drug dealer in Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay’s untitled cocaine-trade drama for TNT. (Arjona also recently appeared in two episodes of the crime series Person Of Interest.) Arjona will appear in a recurring role as Emily, Taylor Kitsch’s “girlish but practical girlfriend.” Other details about her character remain unknown, but it is assumed that she will be a woman of great depth and complexity whose relationship with Nancy (Lolita Davidovich), Kitsch’s character’s “former showgirl” mother, will defy stereotypes and silence critics of the first season’s treatment of female characters.
