#TrueDetectiveSeason2: Women!

In the midst of the #TrueDetectiveSeason2 hashtag showing no signs of waning (Lorde and Taylor Swift! Tia and Tamara Mowry!), series creator Nic Pizzolatto deleted a tweet suggesting that next season the lead detectives would be played by a pair of women. It’s not so weird that he suggested it—it’s weird that he deleted it. Uproxx, who has a screenshot of the tweet, suggests that HBO might be waiting to make an official announcement on casting.

The timing on this is sort of perfect—New Yorker TV critic Emily Nussbaum, among others, criticized the show this week on its “paper-thin” characterization of the women in the show. Whether or not the criticism is earned, the fact that True Detective is a show built on the premise of rebooting its cast and its story every season gives it a chance to respond to criticism, which makes it a very exciting show to follow.
