Trump disappoints kids, screws up the national anthem at his first Easter egg roll
Donald Trump’s first White House Easter Egg Roll appears to have gone about as well as expected, with the President both forgetting how the national anthem works and heartily disappointing at least one—if not many—children in attendance.
Things got off to a shining start when, as many online viewers noticed, Melania Trump had to nudge the Donald to remind him to put his hand over his heart during “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The subtle moment was captured as a GIF, because that’s how we do things now.
Following that gaffe, Trump went on the campaign trail, telling the hundreds of eager, candy-hungry children in attendance that the nation and his administration are “right on track” to be stronger and bigger and better than ever before, and that they no doubt “see what’s happening.” While the message was probably meant for said children’s voting parents, it’s amusing all the same, particularly when you imagine Trump really trying to rally the Easter Bunny’s vote.
For what it’s worth, a lot of kids in attendance were, in fact, wearing “Make America Great Again” hats. Pray for our youth.
Though the same costumed Easter Bunny has appeared at a number of different recent White House Easter egg rolls, its gaping mouth and glazed eyes seemed particularly appropriate this year, as the hopping charmer seemed more like a dumbfounded onlooker forced to endorse the Trump administration merely by its jolly presence.
Once the speeches were made, Trump took off into the crowd to glad-hand parents and glower at babies. When one poor kid asked Trump to sign his hat, the president agreed, then tossed the autographed hat into the teeming masses. There’s video of the whole transaction, and it’s truly mesmerizing how clueless Trump is, especially as the kid cries “Noooooo!” while the hat is flying.
In conclusion, Trump sucks. Easter is dead. Gorge yourself on discounted candy now, for nuclear annihilation can’t be far away.
