Trump will not have the endorsement of New Girl’s Schmidt
You know Donald Trump has a problem when even ridiculous fictional Republicans won’t vote for him. According to TV Line, New Girl’s Schmidt (Max Greenfield)—a man who once pretended to be a Romney to get laid—will not be endorsing Donald Trump for president. Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Cece (Hannah Simone) will apparently be campaigning for Hillary Clinton in an upcoming episode, leaving Schmidt in a state of denial. “Schmidt doesn’t acknowledge there even is an election this year,” co-showrunner Brett Baer told TV Line. “He doesn’t acknowledge that Trump exists. He says multiple times throughout the episode, ‘Paul Ryan 2020!’“
Schmidt would admire a man with an intense workout regimen and hair that looks like it contains a fair amount of chutney. No word yet on who Nick (Jake Johnson) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) are voting for, but we’re going to guess they’re Jill Stein fans. There’s also a good chance that Winston makes his cat Ferguson a write-in candidate.
It’s fitting that New Girl is getting political this year. Creator Liz Meriwether watched the craziness unfold while covering the Republian and Democratic National Conventions for Vulture. The Hillary-themed episode will air September 27.
