TV Land orders Melissa McCarthy’s very meta new show to series
TV Land has given a series order to Nobodies, a new series created by producing partners (and spouses) Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. The show—originally titled Friends With Melissa—will see the couple’s friends and old Groundlings comrades, relative unknowns Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras, play relative unknowns Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras, as they try to ride the coattails of one of their famous friends to Hollywood stardom and success. (If that sounds to you like a real Möbius strip of meta-references and Ricky Gervais-esque winking at the camera, you’re definitely not alone.)
Mad TV alum and frequent TV director Michael McDonald will handle showrunning duties for the series, which Davidson, Dorf, and Ramras also wrote. According to a press release put out by TV Land today, a number of notable TV celebrities—including Jason Bateman, Maya Rudolph, and Jim Rash—will appear in the pilot, which was directed by Falcone.
Nobodies is just one of a few products that McCarthy and Falcone—who recently teamed up for the box-office hit The Boss—have in production. They’re also working on a new comedy film, which sounds like a modern, McCarthy-starring update of the Rodney Dangerfield movie Back To School.
