TV Land renews The Jim Gaffigan Show and Impastor
After spending years providing viewers with exactly what they want—reruns of old sitcoms and plenty of Betty White—TV Land is now trying to transition into a more traditional network that tells people what they like and hopes the people agree. To that end, it has renewed both The Jim Gaffigan Show and Impastor, two of its brand new original comedies. That comes from Deadline, which notes that neither show has been as big of a hit as Hot In Cleveland (probably due to their lack of Betty White), but they’ve both done “respectable ratings business.” Gaffigan apparently pulls in four million viewers on average premiere nights across TV Land and Nick At Nite (hooray for corporate synergy!). Impastor, a poorly reviewed (by us, at least) show about a con-man who is pretending to be a gay priest, gets an average of a little under three million.
TV Land is also developing new shows from George Lopez and Melissa McCarthy, so this foray into original programming shows no signs of stopping soon. We assume that’ll only count as bad news to people who really love reruns of King Of Queens and Bonanza, though.
