TV Land’s Heathers finds its Heathers
Earlier this year, TV Land announced that it was doing a TV remake of the classic dark teen comedy Heathers, with news coming a few weeks ago that Under The Dome’s Grace Victoria Cox would play the lead role of Veronica Sawyer (played by Winona Ryder in the original film.) Now, Deadline reports that the show has found its title characters, the relentless clique of high school powerhouses known as The Heathers.
Melanie Field, Brendan Scannell, and Jasmine Matthews have all signed on for the project, where they’ll be playing the snotty victims of JD (James Scully) and Veronica’s murderous schemes. All three actors are relatively unknown, although Field appeared in the Broadway version of Evita, and toured with a national production of Wicked. Meanwhile, stand-up comic Scannell is probably the most notable casting of the three, since he’ll be playing a gender-flipped version of Shannen Doherty’s wallflower-turned-villain Heather Duke from the original film.
TV Land ordered a pilot for Heathers last month. Sleeping With Other People’s Leslye Headland is set to direct.
