Uma Thurman to star in heist comedy The Brits Are Coming

Uma Thurman has landed a lead role in heist comedy The Brits Are Coming, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the film, she’ll play half of a loutish British couple who relocate to Los Angeles to pull off an elaborate jewel theft. Thurman’s character, Harriet Fox, originally flees to L.A. with her husband Peter to escape the wrath of a gangster looking to collect a gambling debt; the Foxes wisely decide to make it a working vacation, scheming with Peter’s ex-wife and her new husband to execute a jewel heist in the hopes of settling their debt.

Thurman joins Kristin Chenoweth, who will play the high-strung assistant to one of the Foxes’ accomplices. The remaining cast members have yet to be announced. The film will be produced by A Most Violent Year director J.C. Chandor and directed by Chandor’s protege, James Oakley. The project is scheduled to begin shooting in July.

Brits is Thurman’s first project since wrapping production on the John Wells comedy Adam Jones, to be released in October. This makes two broad comedies in a row for Thurman, but after the “whoring bed” monologue she did in Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, can anyone blame her? Time to start an online petition demanding a sequel to The Truth About Cats And Dogs. She might be game.
