Under The Dome’s Kylie Bunbury to play first female major-league pitcher for Fox

Variety reports that Fox has ordered a new baseball drama, Pitch, to pilot. The hourlong pilot comes from Rick Singer and Dan Fogelman, and Under The Dome’s Kylie Bunbury is set to star as a young female pitcher who becomes the first woman to play major league baseball.

Singer is currently a writer and producer on TV Land’s Younger, and Fogelman executive produces Grandfathered and Galavant and wrote the 2011 rom-com Crazy, Stupid, Love. The duo co-wrote the Pitch pilot and will executive produce if it goes to series. Fogelman also recently sold a dramedy pilot about people who share birthdays (Sure! That sounds like a sustainable television idea!) to NBC; Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia lead the ensemble cast, each member of whom, indeed, has a birthday.

For what it’s worth, a woman-centric baseball drama sounds immediately more interesting than a show about birthdays, regardless of how universally relatable the latter might be. Pitch is the second drama pilot order made by Fox, which previously ordered Lee Daniels’ untitled musical drama—formerly titled Star—starring Queen Latifah.
