Unemployed James Bond writers will launch their own action thriller, thanks

While MGM continues to act like that one Monopoly player who goes broke sinking all his money into putting hotels on Park Place instead of investing in a property that’s more likely to be landed on, James Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have moved on to crafting an original action thriller for Parkes MacDonald/Imagenation. The concept involves an anthropologist who becomes entangled in a hotbed of geopolitical intrigue when he comes to the aid of a research subject who’s been accused of a terrorist attack, then finds himself in the middle of a battle between the nomadic West African tribe of the Tuareg, actual terrorists, and energy companies fighting over a uranium-rich area in the Sahara. So it’s like a grittier, morally complex version of Sahara, maybe, except more likely to spawn a franchise.
