Universal could be building a Marvel-style "universe" for its classic monsters

In this post-Avengers world, any opportunity for a studio to build a "universe" out of preexisting characters must be considered. So, it was really just a matter of time before Universal played with the idea of dusting off its classic horror movie properties and presenting them "Monster Mash"-style. And according to an interview with IGN, Roberto Orci—the all-purpose genre screenwriter who, along with partner Alex Kurtzman, was recently tasked with reboots of the studio’s Van Helsing and The Mummy properties—says it could be considering doing just that by devising a potential Marvel-style “universe” for them.

"There's an interesting thing that could happen at Universal where they have this amazing library of their old monsters and these kinds of heroes, and the idea of trying to create a universe," Orci says. "You don't want to just make remakes when you're doing a thing, unless it's worthy of being a remake, but when you have an idea for something that can actually be made different and yet be true to what it was. We just had a notion of how to make it modern and have a slightly different tone. It's not going to be just a remake."

This is all still just in the idea phase, of course, and none of it has been officially commented on by the studio. But the idea of having all of Universal’s  monsters getting together is kind of intriguing, so long as it’s not that previously hinted-at Monster Squad reboot.  [via Coming Soon]
