Universal found another Stephen King story that hasn't been made into a movie yet

Continuing to ensure nary a marginal doodle of a little ghost guy by Stephen King will go unrealized on the big screen, Universal has begun development of Mercy, based on the Skeleton Crew-featured short story "Gramma," to go alongside the promised new adaptations of Carrie, The Stand, It, Pet Sematary, The Dark Tower, Firestarter, Eyes Of The Dragon, Under The Dome, 11/12/63, The Breathing Method, and other stories that still aren't The Long Walk. On this Stephen King adaptation, The Haunting Of Connecticut director Patrick Cornwell will team with 1408 screenwriter Matt Greenberg, combining their dark forces of mediocrity on the story of two young boys who learn that their elderly, senile grandmother is actually a witch in league with ancient evils—ancient evils that are, in fact, part of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. As you may recall, Universal recently balked at Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Lovecraft's At The Mountains Of Madness; presumably they were reassured here by the smaller scale, Stephen King brand-name recognition, and lowered expectations. The story was adapted once before as a 1980s episode of The Twilight Zone (as seen above) with a script by Harlan Ellison, meaning Universal can probably expect a lawsuit any minute.
