As reported by Wired, Universal Records has forbidden its artists to stream more than 90 seconds of their songs on their MySpace profiles. The word got out after Universal-signed singer Colbie Caillat sent an email to her fans informing them that she's being forced by the label to swap the full versions of her songs with 90-second clips–ostensibly as a way to increase sales. According to Caillat's email, all Universal artists have to "comply immediately" with the mandate. Wired points out that this policy has been in effect for six months, but that Universal is still in the process of notifying its artists and enforcing the full-song ban.
