Universal promises a slew of new Fast And The Furious movies
In news everyone saw coming, Universal Studios executive Donna Lang has nixed rumors that director Justin Lin would close out The Fast And The Furious franchise anytime soon, saying that the series is still going strong despite the death of star Paul Walker. Lang tells The Hollywood Reporter:
“We think there’s at least three more [movies]. Paul is, and always will be, an integral part of the story. But there are many other great characters, and it’s also an opportunity to introduce new characters. I think it’s still a growing franchise.”
With Furious 7 headed to theaters on April 3, 2015, the addition of three more Fast And Furious films would bring the total count to 10. However, considering that Lang said “at least three more,” as well as the box-office success of the last two movies, we’re potentially looking at more films than the Star Trek series—and hey, if things go well, we may finally have an heir to the Bond franchise. Fast Five already bears a striking resemblance to You Only Live Twice, in that it is much more ridiculous than the previous sequels. In addition, both franchises know the value of a good wax job on a car that is about to be demolished.
