Universal taps Barbershop 3 team for another “female-driven” comedy
Universal must have caught word that Sony is backing another “female-driven” comedy, because the studio has decided to jump in the lady game by setting up an untitled women-focused (look, we’re just trying to come up with new ways to say “female-driven”) comedy. Straight Outta Compton executive producer Will Packer and Malcolm D. Lee are set to produce.
Kenya Barris, the creator of Black-ish, will write the screenplay along with Tracy Oliver. The plot of the film is still unclear but the project is currently being referred to as the Untitled Girl’s Trip Project. Thankfully, no one has said anything about it being a “Hangover, but with ladies.”
Oliver and Barris are the same writing duo behind the upcoming third installment in the Barbershop franchise, which Lee directed. Barris is also currently adapting the ’70s TV show Good Times as a feature film.
