Universal to force 60 Frank Zappa reissues on the market in 2012
Fans of freakadelic artist Frank Zappa are in luck. The Zappa Family Trust has signed a license agreement with Universal to reissue 60—count ‘em 60—Frank Zappa records. Non-fans should avoid record shopping in the near future.
Beginning July 31, Universal will re-release 12 recordings by the mustachioed polarizer, and then follow up with an additional 12 every month thereafter until they reach 60 or the Zappa kids scrape together some more tapes of their dad making funny noises into a microphone.
The first wave of reissues is 1966’s Freak Out!, 1967’s Absolutely Free, 1968’s Lumpy Gravy, 1968’s We’re Only In It For The Money, 1968’s Cruising With Ruben And The Jets, 1969’s Uncle Meat, 1969’s Hot Rats, 1970’s Burnt Weeny Sandwich, 1970’s Weasels Ripped My Flesh, 1970’s Chunga’s Revenge, 1971’s Fillmore East, June 1971, and 1972’s Just Another Band From L.A.
