UPDATE: Fox News’ Kimberly Guilfoyle might replace Sean Spicer

It’s only been a few months since Trump took office, but it’s already abundantly clear that trying to predict what his administration will do in any given situation—beyond lying about everything—is pretty much impossible. Sometimes Trump will zig when you think he’ll zag, sometimes he’ll actually zag when you think he’ll zag, and sometimes he’ll just straight-up tell Russian officials about the classified information he has so they’ll think their investment in his campaign was a good idea. So, while everybody seems pretty confident that White House press secretary Sean Spicer will soon be fired as a scapegoat for all of the bad stuff the Trump administration has done so far, there’s really no way to predict if it will actually happen.

That being said, Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle is apparently so intent on taking Spicer’s job for some reason that she’s been going around and telling people that she has been talking to the Trump administration about it. In an interview with The Mercury News, Guilfoyle humbly revealed that “a number of people” in the Trump administration have suggested that she’d be a good fit for either Spicer’s press secretary role or something similar in the White House, adding that she knows this because she’s “regularly in touch with members of the administration” due to her work on Fox News.

Guilfoyle won’t say whether or not she’d jump at the chance to take the gig, but she says she’s “a patriot,” so “it would be an honor to serve the country”—even if she’s only serving it in the sense that she’d be the mouthpiece for all of Trump’s bullshit. Patriotism isn’t the only reason Guilfoyle seems to think she’d be great for the job, though, as she also told Mercury News that she has “a very good relationship” with Trump that is “straightforward and authentic,” “very genuine,” and “built on trust and integrity.” She thinks an amazing relationship like that is “imperative for success” as the president’s press secretary, and though she’s still not saying if she’d take the job, Guilfoyle makes it clear that she thinks she’s the perfect person for it.

Interestingly, Spicer himself barely pops up in the Mercury interview, with Guilfoyle only dropping his name to acknowledge that he is also “a patriot” and that he “puts a lot of effort into” being the press secretary. Not as much effort as Guilfoyle would put into it, of course, but also she wouldn’t have to put in so much effort since she—unlike Spicer—is Donald Trump’s best friend. Her son even went to school with Trump’s granddaughter, and he loves his family almost as much as he loves golf, so they obviously have an incredibly deep and personal connection.

So we don’t know for sure if Spicey’s job is in jeopardy, but Kimberly Guilfoyle definitely knows who should replace him if it is.

UPDATE: Both Guilfoyle and Fox News have released statements about the Mercury interview, with both of them implying that Guilfoyle won’t be leaving her current position anytime soon. In its statement, Fox News says “Kimberly is a valued member of the Fox News primetime lineup, and is under long-term contract with the network.” Guilfoyle’s own statement is similar: “As I stated in the interview, I really love what I do and my job co-hostingThe Five is tough to beat.”
