UPDATE: Hear the authorized version of the recently unearthed Daft Punk track, “Drive”

Conveniently timed with the release of the new, pulse-pounding Nicolas Winding Refn film of the same name, the “lost” Daft Punk track “Drive” premièred on BBC Radio 1 today. As happens with most things Daft Punk, the track quickly made it to the Internet, and it’s… well, let’s just say it was wise to allow “Da Funk” to take “Drive”’s place as the flipside of “Rollin’ And Scratchin’.” Still, it’s a fascinating look at the early stages of what would become one of the biggest musical acts in the world; those who’ve had their curiosity piqued might want to pony up for Soma Records 20 Years, the forthcoming compilation which will properly bring “Drive”—without tags from an overly impressed Annie Mac—to the masses on Sept. 19. UPDATE: A Soma representative was kind enough to direct us to the authorized stream of the track—which is abbreviated, but at least there’s not a DJ talking over it.
