UPDATE: Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams, and Bradley Cooper to star in some Bullshit

Bringing the same stabilizing force he lent to the once-up-in-the-air Bourne franchise, Jeremy Renner is in talks to replace Christian Bale in American Bullshit, ostensibly the next film from notoriously capricious director David O. Russell. With the increasingly busy Renner on board, anyway, the movie—just one of many projects Russell has attached himself to in recent months—definitely seems more like a lock in Russell's schedule, as nobody should be wasting Jeremy Renner's time right now. Renner will take over the role once occupied by Bale (before he became the lingering, soft-focus shot of an apple in Terrence Malick's eye), starring in the true story of a former con man who becomes the center of a complex FBI sting operation. The title is, of course, expected to change—probably to something like American Bull, or American Bull$#!*—because even with Jeremy Renner in it, you don't play the malls with "bullshit" in your name.

UPDATE: Russell continues to lure people in with his Bullshit, with The Hollywood Reporter now saying that Amy Adams—who earned an Oscar nomination and a lot of "Wow, maybe she's not made of jasmine and crushed periwinkle" respect with her performance in The Fighter—has signed up to work with Russell again on the forthcoming American Bullshit, opposite his Silver Linings Playbook player Bradley Cooper and along with this morning's confirmed star Jeremy Renner. According to THR, Adams will co-star as the mistress to Cooper's con man, who partners with Renner's FBI agent. So, had original star Christian Bale stuck around, this film would have been a Fighter reunion. Instead it's just some Bullshit. Ha ha! The movie has "bullshit" in the name for a while!
