UPDATED: Jason Jones is leaving The Daily Show to become a sitcom dad

In the nine and a half years Jason Jones has been a correspondent for The Daily Show, he’s covered the Olympics, visited “Real America”, and even been involved in an international incident that his boss, Jon Stewart, later made into a major motion picture. But Jones has grown since then, and changed. He wants to spend more time with his real-life family, which conveniently overlaps with his sitcom family now that TBS has ordered the sitcom he created with his wife, fellow Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee, to series. Either that, or he’s trolling us all on Twitter:

For 9 & 1/2 years, I have worked at one of the greatest TV shows of all time. But… It is time for me to go. 1/2

That said, I am ecstatic to announce that I’m about to make another great show over @tbsveryfunny 2/2

An official announcement of Jones’ retirement from The Daily Show is still forthcoming; we’ll keep you updated as we find out more.

UPDATE: Comedy Central has confirmed that, yes, Jones is leaving The Daily Show, but Samantha Bee will stay, an interesting development considering she’s already committed to writing the pilot for her and Jones’ as-yet-untitled sitcom.
