UPDATED: These theaters will play the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer this weekend
News that a trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens might debut over Thanksgiving weekend was met with some skepticism here at The A.V. Club, where we see a lot of Star Wars rumors come and go. This particular bit of Internet scuttlebutt turned out to be true, however, at least for residents of nine cities across the U.S. with theaters owned by the Regal Entertainment Group. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will play before all showings at the following Regal theaters from November 28-30, resulting in a not-insignificant number of Star Wars nerds seeing Beyond The Lights because they already paid for parking so why not:
Irvine, CA: Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX
San Diego, CA: Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Atlanta, GA: Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Chicago, IL: Regal City North Stadium 14 IMAX & RPX
New York, NY: Regal Union Square Stadium 14
Warrington, PA: Regal Warrington Crossing Stadium 22 & IMAX
Knoxville, TN: Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Houston, TX: Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 IMAX & RPX
Seattle, WA: Regal Thornton Place Stadium 14 & IMAX
THR also reports that this information comes courtesy of Regal, not Disney or Lucasfilm, which have yet to release an official statement on the trailer. So there may still be more theaters—or maybe even an online trailer, barring a disturbance in the corporate Force—to come.
UPDATE: Since Regal made its announcement earlier today, two more theater chains—AMC and Cinemark—have announced their participation in the trailer rollout. Director J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot also got in on the fun, teasing fans with this tweet:
UPDATE, 3:30 pm CT: And here’s the full list of 30 theaters, courtesy of Disney’s official Star Wars website. Disney’s site also says the trailer “can be seen in theaters around the world beginning in December,” although it’ll almost certainly be on the Internet by then.
