“Uptown Funk,” Harry Potter style
YouTube channel KFaceTV has been reinterpreting pop songs to honor nerdy subject matter for a while now, but it really stepped up its production values with this Harry Potter-themed take on Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.” Here it’s the Dark Lord Voldemort a.k.a. He Who Must Not Be Named doing the singing (thus making the line “Don’t say my name, you know who I am” particularly appropriate).
What elevates “Dark Lord Funk” above lesser pop culture riffs is the commitment of its performers (particularly Elijah Thomas as Voldy) and the specificity of the parody. Not only is this basically a shot-for-shot remake of the original “Uptown Funk” music video, it also references a pretty specific moment from Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows in which Harry turns himself over to Voldemort to save Hogwarts.
There’s great attention to detail all around: The Harry Potter theme music is remixed into the “Uptown Funk” chorus, Voldemort’s snake sidekick Nagini is played by a real python, and the video’s fictional band is called Tom And The Riddles. There’s even a solid mic (er, wand) drop at the end. [via Daily Dot]
