USA orders a true-crime pilot about Biggie and Tupac’s murders

Not wanting to be left out of the sudden (and somewhat inexplicable) rise of ’90s-set true crime TV, the USA Network has ordered a pilot about the murders of Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur. Unsolved will take as its inspiration Murder Rap, LAPD detective Greg Kading’s non-fiction book about the mid-’90s murders of the influential rap stars, and will be executive produced by Anthony Hemingway.

If Hemingway’s name sounds familiar to true-crime fans, it’s because he’s one of the guys who helped kick off the recent craze, serving as a director and producer on the O.J.-focused first season of Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story. Now—with some help from Suits writer Kyle Long—Hemingway will be bringing the East Coast-West Coast rap feud to life, as told through the stories of the detectives who attempted to solve the drive-by deaths of two of its most prominent participants.
