Uwe Boll film sends six people to the hospital
In yet more news of injuries sustained in pursuit of questionable ends, the CBC reports that six people have suffered non-life-threatening burns on the Vancouver set of Uwe Boll’s In The Name Of The King 2, when several 20-pound propane tanks attached to heaters exploded in a flash fire. Apparently the accident occurred while the tanks were being refilled and had nothing whatsoever to do with the actual filming, despite the fact that everyone was there solely for the purpose of making a Uwe Boll movie.
In The Name Of The King 2, of course, is the seemingly inspired-by-spite sequel to 2008’s much-reviled video-game adaptation In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, a critical and commercial failure that somehow ensnared actors like Jason Statham, Leelee Sobieski, Ron Perlman, and Burt Reynolds, and was sort of like Lord Of The Rings if you replaced Christopher Lee with Ray Liotta, added ninjas for some reason, and substituted the meaningful quest to save Middle Earth with the mission to ensure Matthew Lillard never works again. In a recent interview, Boll describes the necessary sequel that sent six people to the hospital thusly:
“It's like contemporary, right now big city, and we have Dolph Lundgren basically being a cop or like a fighting coordinator…”
And here we’d like to pause to point out that Dolph Lundgren is playing “a cop or like a fighting coordinator,” two professions which are apparently interchangeable, or perhaps one will take precedence in post-production. Boll will maybe figure that out later, or not. Anyway, it doesn’t matter, because TIME VORTEX:
“One night he gets attacked by ninjas in his house and fell with the ninjas into a vortex back in time. And then it turns out it’s like 50 years after the first part In The Name Of The King ended, and Ehb is destroyed and everybody is dead, Jason Statham and everybody who was in the first part, got wiped out. They say he was basically sent into the future, he’s the son of Jason Statham, and he was sent into the future, brought up in an orphanage, because the parents felt that they would all die. So he is basically the last survivor of the kingdom of Ehb so he should bring the kingdom back in charge.”
It’s a shame that Boll’s vision for In The Name King 2—the pathos of a fatherless child set adrift, and his Joseph Campbell-esque hero’s quest to take back his kingdom from the Time Ninjas aside—necessitated losing all of the principal cast of the first film, of course, but such are the demands of the story. Anyway, so basically that is why six people were caught in a propane explosion, basically. [Rope Of Silicon via Movieline]
