Vanessa Williams joins The Good Wife as a great businesswoman
According to Deadline, Vanessa Williams may give Peter Florrick the money for his run (for president) on The Good Wife this season. Williams has just joined the cast in a recurring role as Courtney Boalt, an “extremely successful, self-made businesswoman” who’s looking for a candidate to back. Peter (Chris Noth) and his campaign manager, Eli Gold (Alan Cumming), will court Courtney in order to fill their coffers, but Eli and Courtney could end up falling for each other. So it sounds like Williams could channel the imperious editor she played on Ugly Betty (who nonetheless dipped her nib in the company ink) and fit right in.
The Good Wife season 7 premieres on October 4, and will reportedly see Peter pitted against Hillary Clinton in the race to the White House. Clinton recently (and grudgingly) revealed she has an interest in the show; that’s a revelation we hope to see turn up in a future episode, possibly via Clinton telling Peter she’s a fan of Law & Order.
