Veep’s Chris Addison to helm Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake
The Thick Of It’s Chris Addison won over American viewers from behind the camera as a director on Veep. Now Variety reports he’s branching out into feature films, beginning with that Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake we’ve already heard so much about. The new film has swapped the masculine rivalry of the original, which starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine, for the oneupswomanship of Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. And to really drive home the gender-swapped angle, the remake of a remake (Marlon Brando and David Niven played the O.G. swindlers in “Bedtime Story”) has been titled Nasty Women. Hathaway and Wilson will play the central grifting duo—one posh, one not. They’ll compete to hoodwink some “naïve tech prodigy,” a role that has Zach Woods written all over it. Relatively untested scribe Jac Schaeffer is writing the film for MGM, but there’s currently no start date for production.
