Veep’s Matt Walsh to star in rom-com
Cannes is underway, providing a steady stream of news for cinephiles who couldn’t make the trip to France. Included among the many dispatches is the news that Veep’s Matt Walsh has landed a lead role in an upcoming romantic comedy. Walsh will be shilling and presumably swilling bourbon in Under The Eiffel Tower, which is precisely where his 50-year-old salesman character will have his heart broken by a woman half his age. He’ll then go on a journey of self-discovery, fueled by lots and lots of wine (in vino veritas and all that).
It’s not the freshest concept for a project—the report even describes it as being “in the vein of Sideways”—but at least Walsh will be joined by some comedic heavy hitters. His Veep castmate, Gary Cole, is on deck, as well as David Wain and Michaela Watkins. The French are well represented in the cast as well: Cesar Award winner Judith Godreche will star opposite Walsh as “a beautiful and independent French woman” (is there any other kind?). Archie Borders is directing, and Under The Eiffel Tower is expected to be released in 2018.
