In retrospect, it’s only too fitting that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Selina Meyers ended last season’s election in an electoral college tie with Senator O’Brien. If anything other than chaos was transpiring, it just wouldn’t feel as much like Veep. Despite the loss of showrunner Armando Iannucci, the show is heading into season five with the administration delicately balancing an uncertain high-wire act, as the team tries to figure out what happens next. This teaser is only that—a teaser—but it suggests the show won’t be resting on its laurels. Calling out its various Emmy wins, the HBO series shows Selina acting presidential, right up until the cameras are off. At which point, she compares her eyelids to Keith Richards’ ball sack. “Oh please, he wishes,” Gary helpfully replies. They’re back in action, and so is Veep, starting Sunday, April 24.
