VH1 does the sane thing, renews RuPaul's Drag Race

The competition in front of the camera might be fierce, but the outcome behind the scenes for RuPaul’s Drag Race was never really in question: The drag reality competition will be back for another season next year, because the channel that airs it isn’t stupid. Variety reports the reality competition series, hosted by RuPaul Charles and airing on VH1, has been renewed for an 11th season, in advance of the 10th season’s June 28 finale.

The idea that it wouldn’t be renewed wasn’t even in consideration. The most recent season is the show’s most-watched to date, averaging a total of 1.2 million viewers per episode—of whom at least a few probably don’t think Aquaria is the frontrunner. VH1 has a clear hit on its hands, and so made the only sane move possible of locking it down for another year. “After 10 sickening seasons, the Drag Race phenomenon is just getting started,” RuPaul says in a statement. “I want to thank VH1 for providing this amazing platform for a whole new generation of super talented drag queens.” Just no more Westworld parodies, please.
