Vin Diesel directed a Fast & Furious short film
General consensus regards 2 Fast 2 Furious as the worst installment in the beloved Fast & Furious franchise. There are many reasons for its low ranking, but first and foremost is the glaring absence of Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto, the rugged heart of the series and one half of the beautiful friendship that drives so many of the emotional beats of the story. When Diesel made a cameo at the end of Tokyo Drift, fans went wild, leading the studio to give Diesel more creative control over the character and franchise, and Dom Toretto was folded back into the main storyline.
Before his return to the franchise in Fast & Furious, Diesel wrote, directed, and starred in a short film that fills in the gaps between his departure and return to the story. The short not only provides a look at what Dom was up to when he wasn’t around but also makes a few references to events that don’t happen until Furious 7. As if the franchise’s chronology weren’t already complicated enough, here’s a whole new component you have to factor into your marathon. If you still haven’t gotten around to your full F&F rewatch, we recommend viewing Los Bandoleros before Fast & Furious.
