Vince Gilligan honored with Jeopardy! category, can finally impress his friends
Beyond making a TV show that many consider the best of all time, Vince Gilligan now has extra bragging rights: the Breaking Bad creator, head writer, and executive producer was the subject of an entire category on the Oct. 28 airing of Jeopardy! We imagine that Gilligan called all his friends over to his house to share in this sweet moment of acknowledgement—which, let’s face it, is far more fun than being handed another Emmy.
The first clue: “‘Breaking Bad’ creator Vince Gilligan pitched this character as ‘Take Mr. Chips and turn him into Scarface.’”
“Walter White!” Gilligan likely called out while leaping to his feet. Sitting back down with a bashful grin, he corrected himself. “Who is Walter White?”
Hopefully the mood in that living room wasn’t tempered by clues revealing that Gilligan also has writing credits for both the 1998 romantic comedy Home Fries and the 2008 Will Smith-starring Hancock—both of which have some good parts, but they’ll never make children’s book author Judy Blume lose her shit on Twitter.
Anyway, you can watch the Jeopardy! episode here and realize that early writing credits don’t really matter when you’ve written something as good as Breaking Bad—and, more importantly, when Alex Trebek knows your name.
