Vince Gilligan says Los Pollos Hermanos could become a real restaurant
There’s good news for anybody whose stomach rumbled during the opening montage of the third season Breaking Bad episode “Kafkaesque,” with its food-porn-riffic commercial for fictional meth-and-chicken distributor Los Pollos Hermanos. According to a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything from series creator Vince Gilligan, Gus Fring’s personal poultry empire may soon be a reality:
“Believe it or not… there is talk of a Pollos Hermanos becoming a real restaurant. This is not an idea that I generated personally. But it’s one that’s been presented to me, through the good folks at Sony, and the idea came to them from a businessman who has an interest in doing just that.
Speaking for myself, I’d love to see that happen!”
Unsurprisingly, the people of Reddit were enthused by the reveal. (They also quickly filled out the Easy Joke bingo card for this story, suggesting the restaurant be staffed by hyper-vigilant managers, terrifying Mexican twins, and impotent, angry bald guys.) Maybe it’s because Los Pollos’ food always looked so good, resting gently under those harsh fluorescent lights. Or maybe they’re all secret meth addicts, hoping some sweet blue crystals slip through the unpacking process. Or maybe they just want to eat at a restaurant where quality is ensured with box-cutter sharp precision. In any case, it’s a big day for anybody who hankers to sit in a fast-food chicken place and say, “Yep, just like on the tee-vee.”
In other Breaking Bad food-related news, Gilligan also took the opportunity to reiterate that people should stop throwing pizzas on the roof of the house used as the Whites’ residence. And while he didn’t go to the Vince Gilligan red line this time and call those people “jagoffs,” he did stridently ask that pizza-throwers think of the current homeowner and not “risk this very sweet lady breaking her back getting her ladder out and climbing up to clean pizza off her roof.” He also resisted the urge to point out that this would make for a pretty good cold open on Better Call Saul, even though it totally would.
