Viola Davis leads a gang of badass Widows in the trailer for Steve McQueen's latest
It’s been five years since Steve McQueen (the British director, not the late action star) won Oscar gold with 12 Years A Slave, and this morning 20th Century Fox released the trailer for his latest, Widows. Despite the downbeat title, this looks as far from McQueen’s last movie as you can get, replacing the antebellum South with present-day Chicago and devastating drama with hard-hitting action and intrigue.
The cast for this film is as incredible as those of McQueen’s previous films, though, with Viola Davis leading a gang of recently widowed women on a heist to settle their husbands’ debts. That gang includes Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, and Cynthia Erivo, with Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas, and Brian Tyree Henry providing some male support (or menace, as the case may be).
Widows storms into theaters on November 16.
